What Nature Demands
You don't love yourself enough or you'd love your nature too and what it demands of you.
- Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 5.1
Our nature demands that we get out of bed in the morning.
Our nature demands that we exert our bodies.
Our nature demands that we tackle hard challenges.
Our nature demands that we do our work, and to do it well.
Our nature demands that we be honest.
Our nature demands that we try something new and uncomfortable.
Our nature demands that we fail, often in front of others.
And our nature demands that we try again.
These are things that our nature demands of us. And when we fully love and understand ourselves, loving each of these things is no problem at all.
Back to Marcus: "What do I have to complain of, if I'm going to do what I was born for? [Are you] not willing to do your job as a human being? Why aren't you running to do what your nature demands?"
Now those are good questions for this day.
